Here you will find images that are either black and white or mostly monotone in color. It is difficult to say why black-and-white images claim such a hold on our imaginations, and maybe 'imagination' is part of the answer. You've probably had the experience of seeing an old photo album or watching an old movie and wondering just what exactly the scene looked like 'in real life'. When color is no longer an element in a photo, we are almost compelled to engage the photo more deeply. We begin to function less as observers and more as participants, invited to add our own unique perspective to the tapestry of interpretation that forms the invisible backdrop to the image.
