Cascade Over Shelf Lake
Warm summer greetings from the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park! The flowers are out, the streams are flowing but there is still a lot of snow! This has been an unusual start to the summer as many areas that are normally clear by now, are still snow covered. This has provided some new opportunities for photography, while also making some hikes a little more challenging. Yesterday morning I spent sunrise up at Shelf and Solitude Lakes in a little known corner of Glacier Gorge. I went up intending to shoot a particular view of Shelf Lake with the waterfalls cascading into the lake, but the deep snow obscured 90% of those falls so it was time to look for some new compositions (which is not a bad thing).

On My Feet!

Back in March I slipped on the ice and badly damaged my ankle. It resulted in nearly 12 weeks off my feet. I'm now back up and at it, though a little less fit than I would like to be. Since the doctor released me from my crutches, I've been trying to make up for lost time visiting many beautiful areas of Rocky. If you have a few minutes check out the "New" section of my website to see what I've been up to.

Photography Workshops, Finally!

I know that many of you have been waiting to hear when I will begin offering photography workshops. I now have my permits and can begin giving workshops next week. The first workshop (July 11-12) will be held on the evening of Friday July 11th and the morning of July 12th. Since this will be my first workshop and I may still need to iron out some kinks, I'm offering a 50% discount for this initial workshop only.

My plan is to offer one workshop each week which will be comprised of three hours of classroom instruction on Friday evenings, an early morning photography outing on Saturday morning in a scenic spot in Rocky Mountain National Park followed by a post-processing session back in Estes. This workshop will be geared towards providing a foundation for those interested in learning about landscape photography. Details can be found on my new workshop page.

Backcountry Photo Guiding

Secondly, beginning early next week, I will offer a backcountry photography guiding service. This service is designed for those who want someone to take them to some of the most scenic and even remote locations in Rocky Mountain National Park, timed to arrive for the best light of the day. I'm only planning to offer one guiding trip per week, so reserve your space early. Both full-day and half-day trips are offered and the trips are customized to your desires and fitness level. More information can be found at on my new photo guiding page.

Personal Instruction and Photo Itineraries

Beginning later in July, I plan to also offer hourly photographic instruction. I will also be offering a new service for photographers who are visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. Customized itineraries can be purchased to help photographers maximize their time in Rocky. These itineraries will be based upon the current lighting conditions and the physical abilities and interests of the photographer. Each itinerary will provide information on exactly where to go, when to be there, and how to get there as well as lodging and area information. Contact me for details.

RMNP Forums

I want to let you in on a little secret. Almost every day of the year, I post a new photo to my favorite Internet forum. It is called RMNPForums.com and as its name suggests, it is for people who love Rocky Mountain National Park. There are discussions about hiking, photography, things to do, recent finds, trip reports, related news, etc. Stop by and meet some of the friendliest people you will ever find at: http://www.rmnpforums.com. By the way, my login name is "Malok" which is an Albanian term for a hard-headed, ignorant mountain man, which seems to fit quite well. :-) Hope to see you there!
